SOMETIMES YOU FIND YOUR LOST SOCK
somewhere in el aljarafe, in a faraway place whose name i do not wish to forget, lived a girl with stunning green eyes. near this particular place, one of the many small villages of aljarafe, lived a boy with a brilliant smile. this pair of teenagers spent their mornings laughing during high school recess. as the days passed, their friendship grew. one morning as the bell rang, the girl with the green eyes began to climb the stairs to return to her classes. she hesitated. she pivoted. she turned to approach the boy with the brilliant smile. and she kissed him. |
their teenage romance was innocent, a vivid first, but brief. soon she left the villages of aljarafe to return to her land of cotton and red clay. they wrote letters, building the friendship that had first united them. as their high school years ended, so too did their letters. the teenagers parted ways, their memories of each other safely stored in boxes, stuffed in the back of drawers. memories and letters faded yellow.
one day the man with the brilliant smile reached far back into his drawer, blew the dust off the box, and unfolded the letters. if the papers had faded, her memory had not. she sparkled alive on those sheets as if the recess bell had just rung. that day he set out on a journey, determined to find the woman with stunning eyes once again.
he knocked gently. she opened the door. they both knew. jose luis and taya louise. forever. always. |
